Back to FAQs
Locked into the Nylon Coating on Quartermaster Wire Shelves is a Sliver Halide compound, which becomes active when in contact with moisture.  The clever thing is that the compound is encapsulated in a ceramic jacket to prevent the compound moving out of the coating every time the shelf gets wet.  Which given the shelves use in damp environments and regular washing would otherwise mean a short effective life for the antibacterial action.
The active sliver kills bacterial, moulds and yeasts quickly and in a way that prevents mutation.  It is proven effective against MRSA

This finish is ideal for wirework especially when in contact with food.  A typical application is the plate carrier shown in the catering applications page
