ECO-FRIENDLY COATING INTRODUCED TO QUARTERMASTER RANGE

Bedford Shelving, one of the UK's leading wire shelving and racking manufacturers, has introduced a new environmentally-sound coating to its best-selling storage range.Rilsan Fine Powder wire coating

The company's hygienic Quartermaster NQ 'nylon coated' shelving system now features the Rilsan® T fine powder coating, which is produced from the renewable Castor Oil plant (Ricinus Communis)

A thermoplastic, Rilsan® Fine Powders are free of any heavy metal based pigments and curing agents and they do not release any volatile organic compounds.

Manufacturing is not directly affected by fluctuating crude oil prices and they offer a responsible coating solution that helps safeguard the environment.

Bedford Shelving's Quartermaster NQ system is perfect in food preparation or sterile areas and is used widely in coldrooms and damp areas. The new Rilsan® T coating has created a tough, smooth, easy-to-clean surface that offers excellent resistance to heat and chemicals - particularly alkaline and chlorinated hot water.

Introducing the latest development, Bedford Shelving director, Mark Walsh, said: "We're delighted to be the first UK manufacturers to introduce this 'green technology' to the shelving market.

"As well as their sound environmental credentials, Rilsan® Fine Powders are also efficient to apply to our wirework, with very little wastage in the manufacturing process, so there are additional benefits for us.

Quartermaster hygienic shelving is manufactured in Bedford Shelving's Yorkshire-based factory, with a wide range of shelving sizes and finishes in stock and special sizes or modified designs available on request.

Quartermaster has been the company's main catering and healthcare wire shelving system for more than 25 years.

As well as the eco-friendly NQ specification, Quartermaster is also available in mild steel with a bright zinc plated finish.

The use of castor oil is gaining popularity in industry because of its sustainability. Global castor seed production is around one million tons per year with leading producing areas being India, China and it is widely grown as a crop in Ethiopia. In Brazil, another major producer, castor oil (locally known as mamona oil) is used to produce biodiesel.

Eric-Vincent Thomas, from Rilsan® manufacturers Arkema, said: "We are delighted to be working with Bedford Shelving on bringing environmentally-friendly technology to the UK shelving and racking market."

Bedford Shelving is one of the UK's leading manufacturers and suppliers of high-quality wire, aluminium, stainless steel and chrome shelving and storage and racking solutions for healthcare and catering use.

Boasting a 174-year heritage in the wire and shelving industry, it is supported by a significant on-site manufacturing operation and a factory in Brighouse, Yorkshire.

The company is most widely known for its category-leading 'Quartermaster' and 'Livewire' hygienic shelving solutions and its category-leading wire products have been used in hospitals for more than 40 years.
